Thursday Night Social Pre-Meet (South Eastern)

ok, since the northern meets started up on a thursday night which WAS the same night as the southern meet it would seem as though the southern meet has died

well i am here to ressurect it, KIND OF

i am proposing a THURSDAY NIGHT SOUTH EASTERN PRE MEET:D

location will be: HUNGRY JACKS HEATHERTON, corner corporate drive and warrigal road
arrival time: 7:30pm
departure time: 7:45pm

we will depart as a group to drive down to the northern meet because lets face it, a group of cars is more fun than driving just by yourself

PS. there is a shell servo next to the hungry jacks if anyone needs petrol and also a chinese take out place and a subway incase anyone is hungry before leaving

yea we last week we went up warrigal rd. and onto the monash freeway and get off at the burke road exit. no E-Tag is needed in case ur wondering coz we got off 2 exits after warrigal.

yea that will be NO problem, we will all probably leave at around 7:45pm from HJ's, go to the carwash on centre and warrigal for those wanting to clean their cars, and then head up to meet you since its on the way:D

For the south eastern pre-meet you simply go to warrigal rd hungry jacks at 7ish (we leave at 730) and just look out for the magnas. If we are there you will see us in the car park.

Yer i'm thinking about amping my 6x9's and splits, but i'm very happy with how it sounds at the moment.

Anything is better than stock lol.

yer the amp will make your speakers louder, so a bit more clarity at lower volume levels, but the best way to get an awsome sounding system is to have a mixture of differnet sized speakers. This will help cover the the whole range of tones (frequencies) in music, in other words go for high fidelity (flat frequency response) first not volume output.

For example, Subs for bass (roughly 20Hz- 250Hz), 6x9's for bass, low-mids & hi-mids (roughly 100Hz-1000Hz) , 5"-6.5" speakers for low-mids & hi-mids (roughly 200Hz-2500Hz) and finally tweeters for hi-mids and highs (roughly 1500Hz - 20,000Hz). For best results use external crossover units with the 5"-6.5" speakers and tweeters. Have all those different components and you can't go wrong really, even if they're the cheap jaycar speakers will still sound pretty decent because you'll have covered the audible frequency spectrum (20Hz - 20,000Hz). When you get into the high end audio, most of the time you get what you pay for.

A bit of friendly advise, all those 4-way and 5-speakers are a sales gimick, going from a similar priced 4-way to a 5-way makes no audible difference, although going from a 3way to a more expensive 4-way does make a small difference, but not really worth the extra $100-$150 EDIT: IMO. i wasn't bagging jaycay speakers, just saying that they aren't the best sounding speakers by themselves and in a good set up (yours is pretty good, that you list on your profile) will sound much better than they would otherwise.

Like i said component speakers are the way to go. I have heard good things about the precission ones, can stand up to brands twice the price they reckon. Would love to hear them in action. :)

Alpine was just an example I thought everybody would know; in hindsight other better brands would have been better to make my point with. haha

Yes in terms of getting your sub to sound good your quite correct about the 120Hz, although I was actually giving a rough estimate of what frequency range each type of speaker will comfortably physically produce. Not what frequencies sound the best in each speaker. Most subs will quite comfortably produce a 250Hz tone, but if you start sending them frequencies in the higher end of the spectrum, that's when you could have some problems as a sub is too big to make a tone anywhere near 20,000Hz (20kHz). I was trying to say that to get a good sounding system you need all your speakers together to cover the whole audible spectrum of frequencies (20Hz to 20kHz) at even volume levels (ideally +3dB or -3dB, but most systems have a couple small dips/boosts here and there) ie a flat frequency response. Using many different sized speakers will help you to achieve a fairly flat frequency response that covers all the audible frequencies (20Hz - 20kHz). Basically if the speaker’s frequency response curves overlap each other then you'll have a very good frequency response in your car, making for accurate sound reproduction.

This web page has a graph on it showing a subwoofer frequency response curve, that shows that this particular sub sounds good from 23HZ-130Hz (flat response between these frequencies) and can physically produce sounds up to 300Hz.
