Hey guys,
Just wanted to see if people are interested in buying UHF's. They're very useful on cruises! HRD2GT has been quoted a price of $49.95 for a pair if we buy 10 pairs. So I need to know if we actually have enough people interested in buying these things. If you just want 1, then that's fine. It'll just cost you $25, but we'll obviously need more people if everyone ends up just wanting 1 instead of the pair. But we'll see how it goes!
Interested:
1. HRD2GT - pair
2. MGNTZD - 1
3. Type40 - 1
4. tww - pair
5. zeke - pair
6. liverpool_rule_88 - 1
7. fatboyslim - 1

I'm not too sure whether to include interstate buyers at this stage, but I guess if you're prepared to pay extra for postage, then we could work something out :)
uhh i work for dick smith, i might be able to do them better than 50 a piece..wouldnt matter how many you get. I'll take a look and get back to you guys if you're interested?

sounds good mate! Cheers! :)
Yeah can definitely get them cheaper than $50 a pair, I remember them being $39 a pair sometime over christmas, so stores definitely have the flexibility. I'll consider one pending final price.
yeah, most UHF radios have somewhere between 30 and 70% GP, they cost us nothing lol
Ill check monday and get back to you

My son has 4 of these units (I'll just pinch one of his if I ever get to a cruise) - they're quite a good little unit.
If we ever have a good group buy for an in-car UHF CB (something like a UH015sx, UH400SX-RM or UH500SX-RM), I'd possibly be interested.

I think police are now on digital frequency, these only pick up analogue frequency.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Yep police are digital so the UHF won't pick them up. There may be few still on the analog system through out Australia, but not may this would be out in ths sticks somewhere. Hand held UHF radios are a good thing in a group:)

Mate, can you also get a price on the D1961 as well, my experience on cruises is the .5w is not really powerful enough for what we do.

I agree. I've had these, and havent had much success. The battery time is terrible, even using energiser lithiums (at $15-20 for 4) you will only get about 2 hours.
I would try and find a model thats rechargeable with a higher wattage, and go somewhere other than the woolworths owned tandy.
Most retravision, jb hifi, or good guys stores would be the place to try -im sure any of these wouldnt blink at a price below $49.
The others such as wow, clive peters, clive anthonys, harvey's, joyce maine, dick smith, etc are too corporate and have a lot of rules to follow.
EDIT: Perhaps the Uniden UH049SX (http://www.uniden.com.au/AUSTRALIA/p_uh049sx_index.asp)
rrp is $99. You should be able to get them to around 80 for a 12 buy. Not much more when you consider you dont have to buy batteries, and you get a good life (30 hours (based on 3 hours talk, 27 hours standby)) out of the batteries it comes with. VOX headset for handsfree use, and 1watt transmission will give you more than enough range to talk to people who get lost at the back.
anyone know wats happning with these?

I'm gonna have a talk to HRD2GT about which handsets we're going to use in the group buy. Poita also messaged me and said he can offer higher power handsets:
Jaycar DC1045 - 1.5W (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=DC1045&CATID=&keywords=uhf&SPECIAL=&form=KEYWORD&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=)
Jaycar DC1060 - 3W (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=DC1060&CATID=&keywords=uhf&SPECIAL=&form=KEYWORD&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=)
They are Digitech brand.
Optional:
12V DC car charger (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=DC1036&CATID=&keywords=dc1036&SPECIAL=&form=KEYWORD&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=)
Both also have the option of a throat mic, motorbike headset, standard UHF mic and VOX headset.
RRP is $99.95 (DC1045) and $169 (DC1060). He can get them for about $74 and $125 respectively (inc GST). 3+ and 5+ provide further price reductions.
Would everyone be prepared to spend a bit more for a higher powered handset? Or do you just want to stick with the original 0.5W?

are those prices per each unit or per pair?

Those prices are per unit...
Interstate people would need to add postage to that as well.

i would go for the Jaycar DC1045 and get the car charger along with it...at $74 thats if jus one person gets it, but im sure we can get some more numbers for it, obviously the more we get the cheaper it is.
If you take the numbers we have now (people that actually want 1) how much cheaper would it get?
Poita

1+ $74

Just thought I would give people a heads up, Super Cheap has the Digitech 3W D1060 on sale for $109 including handsfree earpiece and mic.
I can only get that price if I order 4 or more and then there is postage to your house, so if you want one go and grab one, they are a good unit and $109 is a damn good price!

OK... since this died in the ass.....
Anyone still interested in this??? I mentioned when we went to Philip Island, i can get a 4 pack of the same ones as was mentioned earlier in this thread.
Cost will be $25 each or 2 for $45 ($5 from each sale going to AMC as a donation).
2 for $45 - yes please! Are they still at Costco do you know (going there next Saturday)?
VRX^Chiq
24-01-2010, 02:43 PM
Yeah Costco still have them, thats where i'd be getting them from. They come 4 in a box... most of us would only need one or two, so would be good to get maybe 2 boxes and split them up.
OK, bought a pack at Costco this morning. This is the model
http://www.uniden.com.au/AUSTRALIA/p_uh037sx4_index.asp
I'll bring a couple with me on the cruise tomorrow. I do have 1 spare for $20 if anyone wants it (sorry to steal any thunder Danuta).
Got 36 microfibre towels for $20 too, although they aren't what I call microfibre, more a very fine towelling. Still, will do the job.
