Hey

My engine really doesn't run as well as I'd like, some times it runs beautifully other times it can feel a bit rough and like something terribly wrong is building up. Still pulls as hard as when I bought it but to me I want it to run perfect so have been seriously considering getting the engine rebuilt.

But I dont know too much about these things so was wondering is any south coast members could direct me to a good workshop that can give me a quote on how much this would cost to do?

does it need a rebuild though?

if you do, strengthen everything and go forced induction =D

Well thats the thing I don't know, I've never driven another VRX or 3.5lt for that matter so I dunno if the fact the thing is a rough and grumbly bastard of thing when the engine is cold is normal or if some of the general vibrations of rumbles I get are just the day to day running or a prophecy of worse things to come?

Like I said sometimes it feels beautiful and goes like a scared cat but this usually isn't till after about 15-20mins of driving. I take car of the car doing oil changes every 7-9000kms but at the same time the car does get driven hard every now and then (its a vrx, its ment to be). I was going to get just the lifters, valves and springs replaced to get rid of that noise every magna seems to have and hoped that would solve the cold engine problem but now Im not so sure.

how many Kms?
im asumming its not anything rediculious,
but with oil changes as frequent as you say, and not abusing the engine, i highy doubt you need your engine rebuilt.
had my old 3.0L allmost 300,000 kms, with not the greatest of service history on the engine, and when it fell into my hands, i did push it a fair bit.
never have a problem, some noisy lifters on cold but that was about it.
take it to a good trusted mechanic, and im sure it wont be as bad as you might think

188,xxxkms. yea the engine doesn't get abused just pushed, I've never taken it past 5500rpm and never do gear changes that force the engine to scream from low revs to high ones. Its just lots of little things with the engine that make me want to just start over with it, my old TF was treated a whole lot worse than this one and but the engine was just as good at cold as it was when warm and performed the same all the time.

I just took it for an drive then and like I said it was rough and not fun for the first 15mins but after that it smoothed out and drove great, but anyhow I'll take your advice and see a mechanic and get his opinion.

if it smooths out when its warmed up, and is not blowing blue smoke, i dont think you will need a rebuild.
lol but hey if you want to start over, i have a smooth 3.0L engine lying aorund :io:

For a real start over I'd like to drop in the 6G75.

Dont worry man!
My car is like that to,somedays it wants to haul like crazy and somedays its a bit tired.
Luck of the draw with the days mate, take them as they come.
The 3.5's are a strong engine and i had a mate who had done 530,000kms and it started blowing smoke but it was caused cause the lifters were wearing.

my car has done 254,000 no probs at all going still strong, just look after it and change the oil regularly and it be right.
I've been giving mine full synthetic oil.

Cheers guys, this is my first car loan so Im bit fussy over anything wrong with the car.

Otherwise yesterday I put a bottle of Nulon Performance Engine Treatment in it and since then its been running great. At start up the ticking noises are quiter and its feels alot better when pushed.
