Hey guys,

As some may know, recently a Diamante turned up at the wreckers at Blacktown Pick N' Pay!

What nobody realised (I inspected it today) is that it was a Diamante 30M with a 6g72 DOHC MIVEC producing 199kw/305nm @ the fly.

I spoke to the guy at the window, they had removed the engine because it was dumped and legally cannot sell the engine number, so heres the deal, they are willing to sell the top-end for $500, the top-end will bolt on to a 6g72 bottom end (TE-TJ), may even bolt to a 6g74 but I'm not sure about that one. I would love to do this, but funds do not permit at this stage so I would love to see somebody else do it!

So, anybody wanting to do this, you will need (basics):

- 6g72 DOHC MIVEC top-end ($500)
- Diamante 30M ECU (See the car with the jap vin plate, middle, second row) or Full aftermarket ECU with MIVEC support
- Engine Harness (Or custom wiring for MIVEC)
- Dash Harness (This has been butchered at Pick N Pay, you will have to either source it, or do custom wiring)

Some specs on the 30M engine (6g72 DOHC MIVEC):

199kw@7000rpm (This is detuned for jap standards, produces more with a tune)
305nm@4500rpm
10:1 Compression Ratio
3.0 V6 24V DOHC MIVEC

To my knowledge there has been one conversion so far (6g72-30M with 5sp tippy) - It ran flat 15s

No pics of the engine, its in the cage - He also said it will be deported if not bought within a couple of weeks.

Heres how it was identified (note the redline on odo):

Im interested, i have the money and interested in some thing different??

Any advice, or tips??
how much would it totally be and how hard is it to source parts??

Is this actual possible or just a thought??

It is very possible, top end swap it fairly easy if you have a 6g72 bottom end, the problem is wiring and mivec control. Either custom wiring to run the stock MIVEC ECU, or full aftermarket (I don't think piggyback will cut it with this setup).

And how many MIVEC conversions have you done dude? Nothing is as easy as it seems. NOTHING. So dont say it is when Trotty is right on the money. Do-able, but not easy.

How much does he want for the heads? Wouldnt mind doing this as my ECU is MIVEC compatible.

tuffy he wanted $500 for the heads. A little steep IMO. I was at the scrappers with Dean and must say that whoever got their hands on that diamante first really went to town lol

The cluster was interesting indeed, never seen one like it. That was the only part left on the car worth salvaging. There was an odd storage compartment on the rear parcel shelf next to the factory subwoofer, a bloody big gaping hole in the firewall and some hefty kind of control unit bolted to the firewall as well on the driver side?

The suspension up the front was totally different to a normal Magna, really interesting to check it all out.

I was there with Owen the other day.

Also interesting was the strange pocket in the parcel shelf, oh and the foot-brake with dash-lever release was cool too

yup the foot brake was cool !! Other interesting parts were automatic folding mirrors and door switch to go with it. Whoever took the loom should really have taken the driver door panel

If you want one for your 2nd gen I have one off a 1st Gen Diamante 30V for sale...

Yeah $250 a head is ridiculous...

Why dont you just buy the bits dean?
A good opportunity for ya indeed so instead of tellin everyone about it,do it!
Im sure if you know so much already,it should be easy for ya or even get a good mechanic to install it for ya whilst you watch them and tell them what to do :woot:
Not payin ya out, just givin ya some incentive to get ya figger out and do it already cause you cream your pants everytime i see you talkin about it in person :facejump:

Sounds like a great head conversion, lm going to see if the heads would possibly fit the 6G74. I'll grab some head gaskets from both and make some measurements. And if all looks good, then lookout !

According to dean aswell any electrical issues should first be sorted by replacing all the fuses in the car.
But it was well known before Professor Dean all told us that yes the heads will bolt up.
Guy in the us has put the 3.8L SOHC MIVEC heads on his 3L DOHC (turbocharged and goes like stink)

GTO Heads from 91-99 will fit all 6G72 and 6G74 blocks aswell so you know food for though.

That was a *might* :P I said they MIGHT fit Dave! I know they will straight bolt to the 6g72 (3rd gen one) bottom end though.

If reading off what has been listed and told by dean,i think anyone is crazy to not buy the top end of the motor and slap it on but be warned,i looked into one of these engines complete to put in my car and like my mechanic said, the parts wouldn't be as easy to get like our engines here cause our engines can have replacement parts delivered in next to no time were as those engine's will take some time to get bits needed if they have big differences and the fact that by the time you spend all that money on doing the change over, you could use that money to do mods on your own car to get it goin just as good or better!

the only thing i could see being an issue is possibly oil/coolant lines within it, the rest should be fine wih a bit of work, but fixing the oil/coolant lines if they arent right would be an expensive exercise
