I have no idea, but seeing your question reminded me of a question of my own (sorry for taking over your thread)... I was wondering, as I have a Series 1 Limited Edition, how would I find out how many Limited Editions were made?
Yours is a very good question. I hope we get some good info.

I'm not 100% sure, but a good place too look would be the VIN plate and plate(s) next to it mounted above the firewall in your engine bay?

Cheers.

Yep, as already said the last 6 digits are the "body" number which is a sequence allocated at the time the car is assigned by the manufacturing schedule software before it hits the production line.

Cool! That looks simple enough. I thought it might have had a design incorporated into it (different shape, etc).
I'm guessing engravers probably have blank tags like that already. Will check one out some time.

The number on the key tags is separate to your VIN number. The key tag number is simply the number to quote to a lock smith to have a key blank machined to match your car. Posting the key tag number on the net could be seen as a security risk.

You could get a blank machined but you would still need the car to do the encoding on the $400 key!! Regardless someone could still access the inside of you car so what mecha says is a good idea.

Thanks 380matey I am well aware of the encoding however in these days of physical security issues and identity fraud gaining access into a car can be a huge issue.

Also the key can be got for far less than $400 I had one encoded for free by a dealer just because I purchased the key with them.

Okay. As I don't have a tag, I'll be sure to get the correct/only number from the engine bay.
Yes, if you're concerned about the security issue, delete your posted images (I copied it already for my own reference - but I'm thinking of a round tag with the number on one side and Mitsuibishi logo on the other).

Yeah, it was just a curiosity thing to see (on AMC) who has the lowest and highest number build.
But we know the very last one was not sold to the public. And if 00001 was probably destroyed, then the next earliest number built for the public, was also probably not sold and kept in a museum or something.

Mr McEniry announced that the last four 380s built will benefit charitable organisations.

Two will be donated to charities – Vision Australia and the South Australian-based Royal Flying Doctor Service – and a third will go on permanent display at the National Motor Museum at Birdwood in the Adelaide Hills.

“The final Mitsubishi 380 sedan has been very keenly sought, with enquiries from all over Australia, so it was decided the only fair and equitable way to dispose of the vehicle was through our dealer auctions, to allow interested parties an opportunity to secure the vehicle,” said Mr McEniry.

“All proceeds from the auction will also be donated to charity.

This topic brings up an interesting question......do you think there is a difference in quality of production between say #200 and #30,000

I guess the argument would be that by the time they got to #30,000 all the little production problems would have been ironed out.

well i first brought the black VRX then wanted leather roof and everything else that a GT has, so i brought a GT. then after a couple of months of opening up the garage and having two 380's stering at me and me stering back at them i decided that one sadly had to go as i could only drive one at a time and being at the time only 18, two cars was more then enough for me, so the black VRX went and the perents got to put there pajero exceed back into the garage which they were wrapped about but i still miss my black vrx, you knbow what they say, your first car is like your first love, you wont ever forget it... its true lol

(Sorry for bringing up an old thread)
I've been a casual reader over the years of this forum and stumbled across this thread. I got super curious and went outside and checked my vin number.

09/05 0775!

We bought this car in March 2006 from Mitsubishi Lilydale (vic). It was sitting out the back hidden behind a couple of lancers. 9km on the odometer :-)
Since then, the car is now at 75850km. While it runs absolutely perfectly, (still feels brand new), it does suffer from the ticking problem that has plagued other 380s (goes away after a minute or two of driving). I feel that it may also be starting to develop the damper clutch fault at around 40km/h (gears 2-3).

On the bright side, imho it's doin pretty well for what seems to be, one of the oldest 380's on this website. :)
