hi there,

just wondering where the cheapest place in/around melbourne to replace my windscreen would be, i have three decent chips, I tried an Obriens in WA but they wanted 250$ or so, and i remember reading somewhere in the forum that people had done it for under 200$.

if i want to get a rwc to sell my car i', going to have to replace the screen. thanks

O'brians will cost you more as they come to you, more a convenience thing than anything. If you have the time to take it to a shop most will charge $150-200. There was a place in Cranbourne that my mrs got hers done for $200. Can't remember what it was called, but ring around, check the yellow pages etc.

i'll be staying with some friends when i get back to melbourne, but i can definately make it to croydon.

will they give arwc if the chips have been covered by those lil circle plastic things? or does it have to be a fresh windscreen?

thanks

the reason a chipped windscreen is not roadworthy is because the chip weakens the screen entirely. if another thing hits the windscreen, that crack wont help it stay in one piece. it's not because it's ugly or leaking...its because it's dangerous...in short. no you wont get a RWC with the little plastic circle things covering it...

hi yann, i thought the same thing, the woman at obriens actually said i could drive with chips for a yea or two till they started to move or crack??

do the plastic stick on discs help to prevent the chip from becoing a crack? and if so can i just get them at a supercheap or whatever?

thanks

Not really, they might help in extending the life of the windscreen under normal driving conditions, however a cracked/chipped windscreen is still dangerous...

Think of it like this, the windscreen is what keeps the front end of the car connected to the roof, if you get into a front on smash, that chip will just crack and the whole integrity of the car will fail because there's nothing keeping the front end in place
