    None at all??

    How does it drive?

You are not having much luck with you choice of mechanics.

It seems that you would be better off by asking here at the AMC forum for referrals to reputable repairers before putting your neck "on the chopping block".

There would be a number of members here at AMC that would be happy to give you advice for your location in Brisbane.

It might be worth driving a little further if you can be assured of better service.

    "Oils ain't oils, Sol."

I'm sure you remember the Castrol advertisement from the 1970's/80's.

Penrite ATF from Autobarn will work, provided that it is of the correct grade

I have generally found the staff at my local Autobarn to be reasonably competent.

Give them your car details and they should be able to get it right.

From a recent discussion about 3rd. gen ATF's that AMC members have had good recent experiences with:

    http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/sh....php?p=1651850

The suitable Penrite ATF from Autobarn is:

PENRITE ATF FS MULTI VEHICLE FULL SYN 4L
    Product SKU Code: OA02690

    Manufacturer Part No. ATFFS004

    $46.99
    https://www.autobarn.com.au/penrite-...le-full-syn-4l

It is a popular seller and it is almost guaranteed to be in stock at your local Autobarn store.

There MUST be some residual fluid in your sump or lubricating the rest of the internals.

Your "dry fill" specification is "5.8 litres".

A 4 litre container should get you out of trouble for now.

Refill slowly to avoid air bubbles in the 'box.

A suitable alternative Penrite fluid to the FULL SYNTHETIC referred to above is their SEMI SYNTHETIC fluid:

    https://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/atf-mhp-semi-syn

I have formerly used that exact fluid in my previously owned 1990 R31 Nissan Skyline.....with excellent results.

Either of the above two Penrite fluids will do the job.

After your first recommendation, I got the Castrol. I think that should do the job.
And thanks for all the follow up. I needed it. In fact I walked up to BWS and got a bottle of Brandy to soothe the nerves a bit.

    Thanks again.

Happy to pass on names of reputable service centres on Brisbanes northside. Let us know how you go.
Lamenting the loss of Australian manufacturing.

    1998 - 2005 Mirage - still missed
2005 - TL AWD Magna still paying for upkeep

Pre `98 - non Mitsis including two Fords, a Toyota and a Daihatsu

Thanks for that. Have found an outfit called Reliable AT's and Autos. Have a lot of excellent feedback on their site. So will be ringing them first thing Mon.
