Default Wavetrac limo diff for FTO

    Hello all,

Long time lurker, first time poster!

I've been trawling through all your info on diffs here & it appears the FTO diff (27 spline variant) is the same as your 3rd gen Magnas diffs. Can someone confirm that?

I've got an FTO which has actually got a VR4 Legnum motor (6A13) in it, coupled to an FTO box & I've recently destroyed what used to be a rather expensive Cusco diff as per the piccies:

Now I got hold of the tech guys at Quaife over in the UK & from a dimensional point of view, they matched up this diff for me:

Then through a lot off faffing about & googling part numbers, I ended up clicking a link that brought me here. Now after reading a whole bunch of LSD info from here, you guys are now leaning towards using Wavetrac diff (cheaper, deals with the zero torque issue & has track warranty) so Im keen to get one & try it out.

I've been on the phone the Wavetrac in US most of the morning unable to get a straight answer. They have 2 models listed for the Eclispe, the 76.309.160WK (for 2nd gen) and the 76.309.180WK (for 3rd gen) which is what you guys use. They are both pretty much identical in external dimensions, however one is designed to spin one way, the other designed to spin the opposite direction. My question is, is that because the 2nd gen Eclipses had the motor on the right & box on the left (as you look into the engine bay) as oposed to the 3rd gen, which is the other way around? I gather the 3rd gen Magnas have the motor on the left, box on the right, same as the the 3rd gen Eclipse? That's how the FTO is oriented.

So, having said that, would you think I'd be safe ordering the 76.308.180WK? I'd hate to spend a grand on the wrong one!

    Cheers,
    Ben

    Correct.

    76.309.180WK is passenger side gearbox
    76.309.160WK is drivers side gearbox

You will also need a couple of extras.

    MD717879 - Speedo Ring Gear
    MD710663 - Roller Bearings (x2 required)

Flick TJTime a PM, he has a supplier he just ordered from that should be able to give you a slightly better price.

    Thanks mate

Speedo gear I've got (still on the Cusco, just have to heat it off) and the bearings came with the gearbox overhaul kit, so Im pretty much good to go minus the diff centre.

    I'll flick TJTime a pm!

I'll also point out something with the quaife above

The QDH7B is actually the wrong diff, the one required is the QDH7B-R

LOL! TBH I wan't all that annoyed at the end of the day. Those MZs Cuscos are a cranky son of a b*tch. Great for trackdays, but a nightmare for parking!

I'm guessing the Cusco is a clutch based diff??

I'm not annoyed either, the gearbox in my car was on the way out anyways. Just a little annoyed in the time it takes to send stuff internationally... My LSD is still in New York!!
